From central Doha, the drive to the Abu Samra border takes around 1 hour. Passengers present passports for Qatari exit formalities before proceeding to the Saudi entry post at Salwa.
GCC nationals cross with their national ID; other nationalities need a valid Saudi visa. Vehicle customs checks apply on both sides, and the crossing typically takes 30–60 minutes combined during off-peak hours.
After clearing into Saudi Arabia, the remaining drive to Dammam continues via Al-Ahsa and the eastern highway network.
