Travel Overview

Direct Overland Transfer from Riyadh to Kuwait

For business travelers, GCC nationals, and families who prefer a private overland journey to flying, the Riyadh–Kuwait route runs north-east across Saudi Arabia to the Kuwaiti border and on to Kuwait City.

There are two land crossings between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait: Al Khafji / Al Nuwaiseeb on the Gulf coast, reached through the Eastern Province, or Al Ruqi'i / Al Salmi inland, in the Hafar Al Batin area. Your driver confirms the route before departure, based on your pickup point, your Kuwait destination and conditions on the day.

Given the distance, we build in a scheduled rest stop roughly midway, and offer executive vehicles with extra legroom for the multi-hour drive.

Crossing Process

Crossing the Saudi–Kuwait Border

The border is several hours from Riyadh across the desert interior. Passengers present passports (or GCC ID) for Saudi exit formalities before proceeding to the Kuwaiti entry post.

GCC nationals cross with their national ID; other nationalities need a valid Kuwait entry visa. Vehicle customs checks apply on both sides.

After clearing into Kuwait, the journey continues to Kuwait City and your drop-off point.

Direct drop-off anywhere in Kuwait City, Salmiya, or Kuwait International Airport for onward connections.

Required Documents Checklist

  • Valid passport (6+ months validity)
  • Kuwait entry visa or GCC national ID
  • Saudi exit clearance (standard for residents/visitors)
  • Kuwait drop-off address or hotel confirmation

Border and document requirements can change — always verify current entry requirements with the relevant embassy or border authority before you travel. Page last reviewed: August 2026.
